Bamboo Living Homes Completes Two Prefab Green Homes in Two Days
(PRWEB) January 27, 2010 -- The goal: two pre-fab houses up in two days using the most renewable building materials on earth--bamboo.
After 14 years of design refinements, Bamboo Living Homes has hit its stride completing two exquisite home installations in two days on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The expectations of the 21st century home builder could be summed up in four words: green, affordable, beautiful, and now.
Which is why more new home buyers are turning to prefabs to quickly build beautiful, efficient and sustainable dwellings. Five or ten years ago, the idea of prefab, green, or modular construction was an exotic idea, something the alternative crowd championed but was rarely adopted by mainstream builders or developers. Times have changed. Google “prefab” or “green homes” and a myriad number of possibilities appear.
For good reason. The average build time for a timber framed home ranges from nine to twelve months. Enter Bamboo Living Homes, the first and only ICC-ES code certified pre-fab bamboo home kit in the world. With a Bamboo Living prefab home kit, an owner/builder or contractor can start installing electrical, plumbing and drywall in as little as one to ten days.
“People love, and I mean love their bamboo homes. We don’t have clients, we have fans. It’s such a kick to watch their faces when their homes go up – one day they just have a foundation and then a couple of days later they’re walking through their house figuring out where to put the furniture,” says David Sands, co-founder and Chief Architect.
The other big benefit? Contemporary prefabs meet, and in some cases exceed the quality standards of a traditional structure.
“Every single home that we create is first completely assembled in Vietnam before it’s disassembled and shipped,” says Carrie Branovan, Chief Marketing Officer. “Everyone at our Bamboo Works Factory is an artist, and every house has to be perfect. We see the house as an art installation to live in.”
But some prefabs are greener than others. Bamboo Living Homes chose bamboo for its prefab home kits as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional building materials. A single story 1,000 sf Bamboo Living home sequesters approximately 20 tons of CO2, and preliminary reports show that it also has a less than negative carbon footprint.
Stefani Goldman, an experienced builder in Los Angeles who was an executive at Kauffman and Broad, decided on Bamboo Living when her client was looking to build on the Big Island in Hawaii. “It’s been an incredibly gratifying, fast process,” she says of the two homes that went up in two days.
